Authorities reported they were alerted by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.

Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Police then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say early analysis suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.

Local authorities said they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.

An important representative said the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
