Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
